Really amazing talk, my friend had already forwarded it to me, but I didn’t mind watching it again. As a black man I have had my fair share of “well meaning patronising pity” as well as stereotypes about my inability to be romantic and my aversion to cheating on women. She neatly sums it up, it’s the danger of a single story.

@ Samora, thanks for dropping by. Adichie’s fluid prose is possibly the most succinct explanation as to why we must all learn to fully understand one another and appreciate our complexities that I’ve ever heard.
I find this particularly important where Africans and African Americans are concerned. As a graduate of a historically black college, I’ve noticed the stereotypes we hold about one another and how those assumptions and misapprehensions prevent us from strengthening the Diaspora.
