If the flurry of media reports is true, then the injuries for which Tiger Woods was taken to a local hospital for treatment were caused by his wife, not his car accident.  Well, well, well, guess it’s true what old folks always say, “You never know somebody ‘til you know somebody.” Who would’ve thought that Tiger Woods’ nice European model wife would’ve taken a golf club to his car and her fingernails to his face?

One would never have gotten that impression by tracing Tiger’s steps from age five ‘til the night of his car crash.  Tiger orchestrated every step of his career in a deliberate attempt to eliminate any hint of blackness.   You see, to Tiger, black was synonymous with mess and black women were synonymous with loud ghetto mess. So, he ran away in much the same way that so many others have before him; Clarence Thomas, Michael Jackson, Sammy Sosa (skin lightening cream has given many a Negro false hope).

In Woods’ haste to retreat from his own blackness, he did not account for the fact that his wife would never abandon her whiteness.  In her mind, Tiger is her black husband and she’s his white wife. What good is it to run away from who you are if you’re the only one running?

Woods’ Achilles heel is the fact that he has never fully owned his blackness. He’s addressed it only at the most aesthetic of levels during interviews with reporters who were fixated with the idea of a black golfer.  Tiger himself though, has always insisted upon being referred to as “Caublinasian”, not black.   This resistance to everything black has created a knowledge gap. It has caused Woods’ to stereotype African-Americans in general and African American women in particular.

In essence, Tiger ran into this swirl mess by trying to avoid a black mess.  His misapprehensions about black women led him to a white woman who attempted to scratch out his eyes and destroy his car.

You see, Tiger, we black women are a complex group.  We are not homogeneous. We have diverse ideas, points of view, and yes, even temperaments.  It would behoove you to get to know us (no offense to your blond bombshell).
