An Open Letter to Tiger Woods

The world is watching in awe at your total lack of humility, class, and common sense. When one adds the endorsement deals, tournament cash, and net profit from your many business ventures, estimates total your earnings at over one billion dollars. This phenomenal success begs the question; how could you be so stupid?
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18
Quite simply, your superior athletic talent led you to believe that you were not only more talented than your peers, but also better than your peers. I was watching The Oprah Winfrey Show when you smiled that big cheesy grin and explained to Oprah that you were not black, but “Caublinasian”. I remember wandering what Oprah, a woman who has been harrowingly honest about the role race plays in her life, must’ve been thinking as she witnessed your sly attempt to back-peddle away from who you are. How could you not understand that race isn’t as much about how you identify as it is about how other people identify you?
Even now, your press release wreaks with the overtones of an indignant brat, not a grown man fighting to retain control of his image. In your press release you write, “Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn’t have to mean public confessions.” You don’t even know how to apologize.
When you sold your public image to Nike and Gatorade, you became a public figure with a public life. And when you and your wife engaged in a dispute which resulted in a neighbor making a call to 9-1-1, you invited the authorities into your life. Had you behaved like a man Tiger, and handled your private business inside the home you and your wife share (instead of running away), this incident never would’ve occurred. This is not the fault of the press or media. This is your failure and you should own it.
Since you were the married man caught cavorting with models and cocktail waitresses, then you should be the man to offer a clean, unequivocal apology to your fans (of which I am not one).
The saddest part of this whole fiasco is that you could’ve been one of the African-American community’s many heroes, but now you’re just one of our most pitiful disappointments. I do hope your “Caublinasian” brothers and sisters come to your defense. Lord knows the African-American community won’t.

Damn!
You tell him lil sis! Go head with your bad self! That’s exactly how I would have written it if I had written it myself. I don’t know who Tiger thinks he is but at the end of the day, I know what he is and that is a black man…..all day, every day. It is so interesting to me that a person who is 50% black and 50% Asian defined himself as Caublinasian with what he wanted to be, as the first part of the word (Caucasian). This is also what he never has or ever will be. I knew then that he was living in a fantasy world and plagued by his self-inflicted identity crisis. No matter how well he speaks or plays golf, at the end of the day, he is just a black man and the sooner he realizes this, the better off he will be.
